Advantages, Martial Paths & Esoteric Disciplines
People have a reason to respect you. (This doesn’t mean they do, but there’s a reason.) Perhaps you’re a scholar of note, or your family name is associated with deeds of renown. Whatever it is, you get treated as one of the elite.
Blessing of Eir
Working in his homestead, the holy energy of Eir fills the Oracle with goodwill and peace. Or maybe it's just easier to heal someone when you're in a quiet, clean and familiar place with capable assistants. In any event, a Oracle who makes a Healing roll in his homestead can add a +1d bonus to his pool.
These techniques can be used outside the homestead. Indeed, they were perfected by Thorval Ragnarson who took Eir's words to the battlefield, saving the lives of the wounded on both sides of the conflict. They are crude, but effective, using fire to cauterize wounds. With a successful Healing roll, Cruel Mercy can remove up to the roll's Height in Killing damage from a hit location, replacing it with twice as much Shock damage.
The oracle's knowledge of healing extends to encompass his understanding of history, nature, and human belief. As long as he's operating in his homestead, a Width bonus equal to his Lore Skill can be added to any Healing success for treating injuries or trauma.
Like Cruel Mercy, the ability to whip up makeshift surgical implements doesn't require the Oracle's homestead for use. With Service of the All, a successful Heal roll gives bonus dice equal to its Width to someone's Vigor roll to overcome injury. It doesn't help with illness.
A priest who decides to Defy the Gates of Death takes a -1d penalty to his Healing roll for every hour that patient has been dead. If the roll succeeds, the patient lives again, but at cost. The resurrected loses a point of Knowledge and one Wound Box from his torso location.
