[Buffy IC] Haunted
Haunted 1.01: Ghost Story
Boston at night. The Boston U campus is noisy and bustling, even by its
party-school standards. The last of the new freshmen are arriving, and
the frats and sororities and societies are out in force to survey the
new meat.
And somewhere in the middle of all this are half a dozen people,
sitting outside the coffee bar at the just-off-campus club Off-Center.
Ben Thanks watches the world go by, eyes occasionally narrowing as he notices something most people don't see.
Mackenzie Myer notices Ben and nods slightly.
Tim Martin, meanwhile, spots Mackenzie, already a familiar face from Parapsychology Society meetings.
John Smith observes the comings and goings with slight, detached interest.
Atlanta scribbles lyrics on a piece of paper, then draws a line through
them and grimaces. She drums her fingers on her guitar case irritably.
Sati Atwal looks over at her and shrugs.
And nobody notices Richard Elwood at all.

Ben taps his fingers a little nervously, watching the people without really seeing them, like he feels he's been doing all day.
"I didn't sleep at all last night," he thinks out loud, rather quietly,
as he attempts to bring his attentions back to his surroundings and
keep the song that begins the same way from taking over his brain, "Any
more brain-dead and I'll be able to sit through a literature lecture
with no loss at all."
He gulps down the last of his coffee, and is feeling nearly human
for a moment, when a paper airplane banks out of nowhere and nearly
hits him in the eye.
"Aw, ow, crap!"

blinks... then does one of those big,
stretch-the-face-and-twitch-the-nose blinks before rubbing his eye a
little and smiling, a bit embarrassed, at Sati.
"Yeah... I'm fine. Just surprised me," he says with and little 'I'm
ok' wave, looking for the source of the airplanes and then back to Sati
with a small laugh, "Guess I'm a little out of it, is all. Probably
need more coffee."
His eye's a bit red, and is probably itchy, but looks alright.

Ben stops his hand as it's half-raised to rub his itching eye, shooting it a little glare, and smiles a little warily.

Sighs...well
not audibly and not literaly since he has no lungs to pass air through.
He sits a little bit away from Sati tapping his foot silently and
wishing he could get back to the dorms. He was going to make Trogdor
level 65 if it killed all of the Plane of Conflict! Although he perks
up at the airplane as pokes Ben in the eye.

nearly spilling his cappucino in the process. "Oh, hey, uh, Mackenzie,
wait up! I've got a favor to ask....umm....if you don't mind. The
Wiccan/Pagan Alliance is having an Awareness Day next week, and my
friend Shelly would really like a spot in the school paper. You know,
just a tiny blurb. On the back page, maybe?" He finishes his request
nervously and downs the rest of his highly caffeinated beverage, though
he's likely too high strung already.

"Hiya, stranger," she says to Ben in her best 'I promise this isn't a pick-up line voice.'

He motions to Sati and then looks back to her; he feels off, and is
fairly sure it shows a bit, with Mackinzie around. Distracted from his

A lean man in his early 50s walks into the café and glances around. He nods to John as he passes and carries on.

Ben decides to respond to her statement, so as to not let Mackinzie's intro slam the whole conversation to a halt.
"According to my dad, that's more than enough for us to qualify," he says, regaining his composure a bit.

"Actually no, but I have felt sorta spooky," he says with a small
cautious grin, trying to lighten his uncle's spirits while getting
something with a grain of truth off his chest.

wonders if anyone is going to introduce him, or even if he's been
noticed at all. Finally, he clears his throat and says, "Hi,
I'm...umm...Timothy. PleasedtomeetyouI'msure." This last bit comes out
in a nervous, caffeine enhanced rush.

says pointing. "Geez, and you just told me that. I'm sorry... I'm just
a bit frazzled right now. I have a big show coming up I am working on.
No excuse though. Anyway beautiful name" *great I'm babbling now she
thinks to herself* "I won't forget it now." She winks at Atlanta.

Tim nods a bit as he's introduced to everyone. "Well, nice to meet all of you."
"Hmm...Paulson House....I seem to recall a friend of mine telling
me that it was built on some sort of old burial ground. Probably
haunted. You'd be surprised how many places are actually haunted, you
know. If you just think about how long humans have lived in places,
it's just....umm...probably very boring to everyone but me. You might
guess I'm a history major."
Tim shifts uncomfortably in his seat and tries very hard not to fidget. And of course, fails rather quickly.

Being rather used to this kind of reaction, Tim just gives a little
patronizing smile. "Of course, you're right. But still, umm, it might
be fun to go to a totally non-haunted in any way place and do
not-homework for a while. Right?" Tim looks round to his new
acquantainces for approval.

Paulson
is busy, but not so bad compared to the campus - since you're at a
flyered event there are less people handing out flyers. Not none, but
less.
"Alcohol-free pizza party!"
"Jello shots at Guilder House!"
"Kiss Chase playing live!"
Nobody holds the door for Richard... which isn't a problem, of course.

hair malfunction- those beads she thought would look cool only looked
cool 'til they lost structural integrity. She gestures to the others

Ben laughs at Tim and Mackenzie's reactions and looks around for a
stray ice-chest or someone with a keg-born beer... spotting an opening
when a guy turns to flirt with a girl, he slips the two drinks from a
table and hands one to Mackenzie.
He listens to the mentions of ghosts with half an ear for a moment
and takes another drink of the beer, scowling a little. Normally he'd
be ribbing Tim a bit too, but he can't bring himself to joke about
ghosts right now.
