Background

I was adopted by rich foster parents in the city of Baldur's gate, but don't remember my real parents. I wasn't treated like the other children in the household. I was ignored except when there were visitors when I was paraded around in nice clothes to show off they had a fairy. I learned how to impress the other rich folk,. When I was 8 I saw a poster for the "Witchlight carnival" and was immediately attracted to it. I asked my foster parents to go there, but wasn't allowed. It was easy to sneak out when there were no visitors. I got into the carnival by tricking the person at the front gate. I don't know what it was, but I felt truly at home at the carnival. Everyone there seemed to be the quirky odd ones out just like me. All the special sensations, smells and sounds made a rainbow of emotions. I had a splendid day there. Near the end a test with a "cabinet of curiosities" drew me. It was both intriguing and horrifying with all kinds of creatures on display. Some seemed there willingly, others as captive. In a cage, was a tiny creature with wings: a bit like me but much smaller. It focused on me; his eyes widening. It seemed to plead to me help it escape. Hiding in a corner of the cabinet, I later opened the Pixie's cage and helped him escape. He hid in my clothes and we snuck out of the Carnival over the fense. Trecking back through the forest, we got to know each other. He's not a real Pixie but a spirit, called Twinkle, in the form of a Pixie. Through his master he has magical powers, he could teach me as well. At daybreak we arrived back in the manor. We tried to sneak in through the window, but I got caught. My foster parents were livid and confined me to a small room in the attic for a week. Twinkle used this time to help me tap into his master's magic as well. After a week I had to be dressed up for a visitor again, but I found that none of the clothes suited me anymore. I picked some new wicked favourites, I wore a pink rug off the floor as a purple vest; I fashioned a hat from a towel and converted a net into a great pair of pants. When I showed it off in front of the visitors, my parents got mad again. They confined me even longer to the attic this time. Nightshade convinced me that this house wasn't the right place for me anymore. After four days, we decided to escape in the middle of the night. I tried to sneak out, but somehow got the mischievous urge to knock one every door before opening it. An urge I haven't managed to shake since. Unsurprisingly, I got caught, but after a mad dash along the house, knocking lots of things over, I managed to cast some of Twinkle's magic, confusing my foster father. I jumped out and crashed out of a window and disappeared into the street. It was hard to live on the street. Twinkle helped me get tough and learn to live on the street. Our best scheme was to charm rich folk. I knew how to act to distract and wow them. Sometimes we would get some sympathy coin from them; sometimes Twinkle would steal from them when they were distracted by me or sometimes we'd sell them some magical "Fairy artifact" which they were happy to buy. I got friendly with many of the merchants, who would help us out here and there if they had any merchandise spare. I got to know all the other kids on the street well as well as as some kids living in housers. Earlier I hung out with a Harengon, named Brolin. Later I met a tiefling girl named Ashira. She knew her way real well around Baldur's gate. She would help out in many of our schemes. We lived on the streets together for several years. When a traveling circus rolled into town, I visited it to see if there was a relationship with the Witchlight Carnival. There wasn't but I thought traveling with the circus would give me a chance to find the carnival again. I travelled many years with the circus, learning the better way of charming guests and also making some money of the guests. We once travelled by boat where I met the Harengon, Brolin again.
