But only one lockpicker
Before I could react properly to the rug, Dhanell shrunk it with a spell. Still squirming, it tried to wrap around me. I misty stepped out of its reach and fired a few arrows. I think they hurt it? Hard to say. But it only dropped when Zephyr blasted it with lightning.
There was a door nearby — a huge lion’s head embossed above it. Locked, and no lock to pick. We took the other path, which led to stairs into a tower. Inside, an empty chest. Open. Green.
Frostbite Returned
I convinced the others to return to where we found Star. It felt safer there, and it was a long day already. Besides, I still believed Frostbite would come for him. And… he did. His story made not much sense. Something about Kelek, his bodyguard with glowing red eyes, flying to the tower (he says dragonborn can do that… since when?), and Zybilna’s desires being trapped in gems he found? There was also a door covered in locks, interesting.
Also, how did we get attacked by a rug when entering one room, and he just flew and walked around freely in the palace without any issues?
We tried to sleep. In the morning, we were greeted by the metallic sound of a beast screaming in the distance. Jabberwock? Probably.
We explored more of the palace. One bedroom had a frozen figure sleeping. Not dead. Frozen mid-dream. Maeve, Zephyr, and Brolin got it into their heads to check every bedroom. For what?
Inside the Tower
Meanwhile, Dhanell, Frostbite, and I tried to figure out a wingless way into the central tower. Frostbite tied a rope to the stairs. Dhanell flew up to a paladin hanging midair outside a hole in the tower, a hole opened by an explosion frozen in time.
I climbed up the rope. Inside the tower. I sneaked downstairs to scout ahead. No Kelek, but there was a wizard with a staff, casting spells at a statue of a stone elf. Ringlerun?
I returned, and we all descended together. I asked the wizard if he was Ringlerun. He wasn't, he was Zargash. A servant of Kelek. He wanted to sacrifice the stone elf to Orcus. Maeve talked him down. She gave him something calming. Then something else that turned him... dull. Eyes blank, tongue slow. I don’t know what she gave him, but it worked. We tied him up, Dhanell took his staff, and Zephyr took his amulet.
I studied the elf statue. So lifelike. Was this a real elf once?
We debated what to do with Zargash. I said we should drop him into the swirling clouds below. Dhanell agreed. Some of the others hesitated, but we convinced them. Mouth gagged, hands tied, we pushed him.
He fell. Halfway down, he twisted. Freed his mouth. I fired an arrow, but it was too late. He disappeared in a purple smoke, and the arrow passed through it. Did he got away?
We continued to the top of the tower, and found the door Frostbite mentioned. Covered in seven locks. Maeve gave me courage — Frostbite some guidance. I tried. The first lock opened with ease. But when I tried the second, the first clicked shut again.
Wrong order? No — something more. The locks wanted to be opened together. All at once. But I was the only one who could pick them. Impossible.
Above the door, an inscription: Speak my name. Whose name? Zybilna’s? We tried “Zybilna.” Nothing. “Queen Zybilna of Prismeer.” Still nothing. But Dhanell held the knob at that time, and he said he felt it vibrate — just a little.
That might mean something.
We’re close. I can feel it.
