London, 7 december 1881. The heavy night fog falls over the city
as the sun sets. The steamers on the Thames dock for the night. The
opening night of the new play at the Queen's Theatre is marked by the
large number of carriages outside, as well as street kids begging for a
pence. Near the great, slow river, the thudding of the heavy machinery
constructing the new underground grinds to a halt for the night. And in
an unmarked alley, a metallic click sounds and a slender female throat
is slit by a crooked claw...
