We arrive in Chult

Played on October 11th, 2020

First weeks

On our way to Chult

There we were, Pine, me and of course Ivy, Daisy and Holly, looking over the Ocean on the boat called "The Brazen Pegasus". The captain, a gnome, was called Ortimay Swift and Dark. He had 7 crew members. And then there were 4 other passengers. A big Dragonborn, an even bigger Goliath, a small, quiet Half-Elf and a talkative human. The trip took weeks and during that time I learned to know our fellow passengers better.

  • The Dragonborn was a paladin called Urdic. He was there to learn more about Chult and its culture. Also he really loved Helm and really wanted us to also like Helm. I guess he could become useful, but I was glad he found other people to talk with.
  • Then there was this real Goliath! She was really big, even towering above the Dragonborn. She introduced herself as Hotblood, but later I learned her real name was Lerea. She wasn't that much into talking to me at first, and really wasn't a fan of my Dice games. But during the trip I got into some interesting conversations and learned a little bit about her past. She wanted to be the first Goliath in Chult. She was also a fan of competitions, but arm wrestling wasn't my strongest point. So the competitions most of the time went between her and Urdic.
  • Nibbles, the Half-Elf wasn't talking too much to me. But I learned she knew magic and she had a lovely pet cat. Also there was some kind of darkness in her eyes. As if she had faced some unimaginable horror. I wondered what the source of her magical powers was, it for sure wasn't music!
  • Then there was Volo. He couldn't stop talking. He did tell us some things about Chult. Like that they worshipped the great god Ubtao in the past, but that god got tired of it and left Chult. There would be mazes in Chult and if you solved them, you would be in the favor of Ubtao. Also he talks about Natural spirits, small magical creatures that wear masks and don't talk. But in the end he really wanted to sell this Monster book he wrote to us. And it turns out all he wants to do is stay in the city and learn about the monsters from other people, instead of going there himself!
  • And there was my friend Pine. I met her a few months ago and we had some adventures together. We work for the same cause, and it's always fun with her. You don't get bored quickly! And there are always paths to follow into the direction of her destiny, as she would say.

The Dragon Turtle

After a few weeks at sea, finally Port Nyanzaru was in sight! But then suddenly the sea started to become rough. Waves of water hit the deck. It got worse and worse, and slowly something rised above the water. It first looked like a rif, but it turned out to be some kind of huge turtle! It swam around the ship in circles and suddenly talked to us in a weird language.

Urdic responded in the same language! Urdic told us that the Dragon Turtle demanded a tribute in gold! He told us 50 gold would do it and offered 12 gold himself. I quickly started asking around for more gold that people could miss. I offered 9 of my own gold, such that I was not completely broke. I'm sure i could win that back easily with some lucky dice! We only gathered 30 gold so I started talking to the captain. We paid him quite some gold for this trip, so he should have some! I convinced him to pay the last 20 gold. The other option was that he lost his ship and we all died. When Urdic had all the gold he threw it into the mouth of the Dragon Turtle, and the turtle slowly disappeared into the water.

Day 1 in Chult

Port Nyanzaru

After that we safely arrived in the harbor. A large chain that was blocking the entrance was lowered. In the middle of the harbor there was a large statue of some weird dressed man. The city was built in the hills. The people living here had a darker skin and were wearing weird clothes. Also instead of horses there were weird large reptile creatures walking around carrying around people and goods. There were vines everywhere and you could see the weirdest flowers and plants. We left the boat together.

I asked around for a cheap inn, and we got pointed towards the Thundering Lizard. There I arranged some rooms for us for the coming night and decided to pay for it, since I was not sure if my friends still had any money left. Also some goodwill would never hurt, we might need their help later! After I had put some stuff in my room i heard Pine. She was talking to the innkeeper and yelled "We have to join them to the jungle!". Lerea, Urdic and Nibbles already planned to go into the jungle. Pine and I just needed to find Artus Cimber. I hoped that Artus would be in this city. But it seems Pine found out he was in the jungle. I guess we really had to go into that Jungle.

A one-armed dwarf that was sitting in the inn heard Pine and walked towards her. He gave her a note. He was a guide that was offering his services for 5 gold per day! That was not cheap, and I was sure we didn't have the gold to pay that.

I asked the innkeeper if I could give a show tonight, that would save us some gold in case we had to stay longer in this inn. He agreed to give me a chance, so let's find out tonight if Ivy, Daisy and Holly can bring a smile on people's faces!

The Harbormaster

We went to the harbormaster to get some more information about Artus Cimber. Also Urdic seemed to be looking for some Half-Orc priestess called Undril Silvertusk.

The harbor master was called Zindar, and he was some weird kind of dragonborn. He could tell us Artus left with one of the best guides, Dragonbait. Also he told us that Artus asked about Mezro. We learned that all guides cost 5 gold per day. A price determined by the merchant prince Jobal. In that case we would have to find a way to earn us some gold. Zindar told us that the merchant princes offered a bounty if you would capture a pirate ship or pirate captain. 2000 gold per ship and 500 gold per captain! The only issue was, how were we going to capture ships or captains on the sea when we didn't even have our own ship!
