12 - More missing kids

And a plan to free them
As we carefully approach the kids, as not to scare them, they call out for Will. He appears from within the treehouse with a small cat at his feet. He exclaims "What a colorful company you are, to what do I owe the pleasure?". The others all head up the rope ladder to meet up with him, while I remain downstairs to talk to the kids.
I show Bobi and Zennor the missing kids poster and ask them how they are doing and if they want to return home, also enquiring where home actually is, as they weren't part of the travelling carnival. As I rummage through the posters they recognize eight more kids who are still living under the captivity of Granny Nightshade: A female goblin Givelda, a dwarf called Brotor, Pogo the gnome, Roff, a bugbear, a drow Naal, Wendell the halfling, another halfling named Filomena and also another gnome called Kalibon. This alongside my desire to get my lost thing back is all the more reason to pay her a visit.
I also climb up the stairs and join Will and the others. They're discussing how to free the kids (Excellent coincidence my goals are similar to those of Will. He's drawing out a map of LoomLurch. As we're also still on a quest to get the portrait, I enquire where it can be found. He also draws this on the map in the "basement" beneath the textile factory. Granny is running a toy workshop where all the kids are working, which makes me wonder what will happen to the toy economy of Tither if we free all those kids, but then I recall and am reminded of the fact these are cursed toys.
Will tells us his life story how he had to work for granny and thus made it his lifework to free all the enslaved children. But some seem to notice his story doesn't add up. Dhanell somehow gets so upset about this he grows a pair of daunting wings and dark puddles for eyes and exclaims "Tell us the truth!". Then we learn the real story that he used to be Mugan, an oni who worked as a kidnapper for granny. But eventually he got cursed by the other sisters and now he's seeking redemption by attempting to free the kids. Granny doesn't know that Will and Mugan are one and the same person.
Now we decide on a plan and timing (we'll leave early in the morning), Zephyr shift the discussion to the alicorn. As I'm growing tired (both due to time and this discussion) I join Maeve, who nestled amongst the cushion for a spliff. I hand the small oil can which is poking in my back to Will who puts it back on one of the shelves. I hear snippets of the conversation about a lake where they get their water and a unicorn appearing beside it. But eventually fall asleep, although I feel I'm being watched somehow.
The next morning we leave together with Will, the kids and the cat, who I learned yesterday turned out to be the displacer kitten Star. Frostbite has been engaged with her a lot meowing back and forth and playing with her ball. Every time I see a puddle of water I make a tiny unicorn appear next to it, until we eventually pass by the actually lake they discussed yesterday. Zephyr]] flies of to a small island in the middle where he lights a fire in a bowl. This causes the promised unicorn to appear. In my head I hear her voice asking me why we're here. Zephyr explains our intentions about the hags. He goes on to explain we would really like to obtain the alicorn as that will help us free Zybilna. We learn that in that case we need to be careful of the Jabberwock, a dragon who most likely is responsible for the huge tracks we saw in the forest in the past day. We ask he if Will and the kids can go here without the unicorn suit to get water, so we could then take the alicorn.
But than out of nowhere a cloaked figure appears with two daggers drawn. He attackers the unicorn, stabbing her. The unicorn vanishes in thin air, but we can't get the cloaked person get away with this. I enshroud myself in darkness and attack. Maeve calls him names and he falls to his knees begging for mercy, while sheathing his daggers. "What do you want from me? I've got nothing against you." Ashira, with a booming voice, ask for more information, why did he attack the unicorn? While he's being interrogated he grabs a small bottle from his pocket, drinks it and vanishes exclaiming "The league will have its revenge on you!" Dhanell manages to hit him with his magic and the assassin reappears, dead unfortunately. We find a small note on his corpse: "Zarak, Get me that horn." Signed Kelek.
