Session 5 (Purkin)

-=[ Level 1 cleared ]=-

Played on July 28th, 2013

19th day of the 3rd Moon. Year of the Runeforge.

We still had to invesigate the last of the three doors. This one however was held shut by a big iron spike wedged in the floor. Zebediah loosened it so Lausian (I thought, it was really busy with people, wondering what could be behind door number three!) could pull it out. Behind it there was this man-sized alcove. Nivara stood inside the alcove and promptly vanished in thin air. Zebediah quickly followed him, and as I don't want to stay behind, I also take this teleport. At least I hoped that's what this was. I'm followed by Thrur and Dorje. Lausian decides to stay behind for now it seems, or perhaps the teleporter ran out of charges.
As we have a quick look around, we notice a hallway with a minshaft and wooden elevator inside. But worse, there are three rust monsters who are after our metal belongings. We eventually defeat them, but in the process I set fire to the elevator and Zebdiah manages to get his sword and armor messed up with rust. Too bad because he looked quite handsome in that silvery outfit. Luckilly we still got some spare golden swords.
We continue down the first corridor to our right. We eventually spot another minshaft with a rickety "bridge" across. There are some relatively fresh footprints on our side of the shaft.

By now we're starting to wonder what's keeping Thrur so we decide to go back for him before we continue onward. As Nivara is climbing up another mineshaft to try and reach Thrur that way, I try to extinguish the fire with some frost magic. After a while we meet back up with Thrur and Nivara. They have been walking around a bit meeting up with the dwarf statue again. Thrur finally got the courage to shake its hand and was promptly rewarded with 100 gold coins. Nivara was less fortunate and was treated with some ugly flying creature which attacked them. It was quickly disposed of. Down the big winding stairs they reached some big room which they didn't want to investiagte any further so they joined us via the mineshaft.

We continued our investigation into the footprints, and as we reached the mineshaft we heard some weird murmurs coming from the shaft. We started asking questions, but only some incoherent answers were given. Eventually it turned out like some weird permanent ghost sound illusion. I wanted to investigate, so Zebediah lowered me down the shaft with some ropes which Zebediah lace bobbined together (don't ask me how he did that). Down there I tried to detect what was going on, as I could still hear the sound but didn't see anyone. Eventually I detected a dwarvish ghost presence which was doing the "talking" to us, but nothing else to discover.

We continued, eventually standing in front of a gargoyle statue in an alcove beside a big wooden door. I'm glad Lausian remebered a warning from the handshake dwarf which had told us to bring a pickaxe and hammer to the gargoyle. I recalled that the dwarf had also mentioned that the Gargoyle knew some kind of password. So Nivara took the hammer and pickaxe and approached the gargoyle. He asked it about the password and the gargoyle said "Glitterdark". Instantly a secret door across the hallway opened up. Nivara wanted to check out the wooden door, but this just appeared to be a trap, so he disarmed it for safety sake.
The secret hallway continued on opening up into a large 30 foot square room with murals depicting heaps of dead adventurers. In the middle of the room there was a large shiney obsidian altar with a armored corpse on top, stabbed with a ceremonial dagger. In the altar, and all around it, small gutters could be seen, leading to the sides of the room. It seems this is some kind of blood sacrifice altar. Thealtar was also "whispering" to us. According to the others it mentioned something along the lines of "someone has to die".
