Session 45 (Manon-Thérèse)

Played on 9 October, 2011

Alpha Mensa - Bridgeport

Sunday 10 June 2379

After Jasmin's discovery we realised two things: we were being followed, across space and time, by an unknown entity. Plus, our ship was not secure. The latter was relatively easy to fix so Rusty added some form of logging to the ship.
In the meanwhile I asked Loktar whether they recognised the gooey stuff and whether les tigres could perhaps follow any tracks. To both my enquiries the answer was negative, alas.

Monday 11 June 2379

Woke up this morning to find Jasmin missing and no idea where she would be. Rusty's new logging didn't help us as it was targetted towards detecting intrusions, not exits. I volunteered to remain in the "arena" while Knut, Rusty and Rinus went looking for mon amie in the ship. In the meanwhile I tried to distract myself by talking to the locals while Gert stayed with me.
After many uncertain hours the boys returned with Jasmin. It turned out she went back to the "knowledge vault" to retrieve additional information. Unfortunately for our nerves she didn't tell us anything and unfortunately for her, she got somewhat lost on the way there and back again.

Resigned to the fact that we couldn't get more information from this place, we flew to another place where there would be another knowledge vault. It took some time, but found it, laying in the midst of a prairie. The biggest building looked almost identical to the building where we landed a few days ago. We found another slab that reacted to the signal sample, but couldn't get it to open.

Knut and Rusty urged us to visit a "mineral vault", which we did. It was determined that we could probably open it, but first we visited another knowledge vault, a kind of bibliothèque. Regrettably, we couldn't get it to open. We returned to the stash and after more than two hours of hard work the brothers opened it. The stash held a lot metal according to them. They retrieved a small amount of it.
Jasmin had the idea of looking at the sound sensor near the "door slab". It's an advanced sort of biotech, incomprehensible to Rusty, Knut and herself.

Today we started by researching the illusionary shield around the planet. We soon found out that it was projected at a certain height in the atmosphere: above it, nothing weird could be seen; above it, the planet looks uninhabited. However, the shield was failing at some places. I had the idea to slowly descent towards the planet through one of the "holes". However, Rusty misinterpreted my idea and descended through the shield instead of one of the gaps. With some fancy mathematics he had found the exact middle of one of the "shield projections" and sure enough... we hit a satellite shield projector and knocked it out of orbit. Unfortunately that also damaged our landing gear. It took les frères 8 hours to repair it. In the meanwhile, the rest of us tried to gather the pieces of the satellite and gain some information from it.

Our visits to the various vaults had not resulted in extra knowledge, nor had our satellite investigation. The talks with the tiger-people weren't that helpful anymore either, as theirs was a rather primitive society with little knowledge about their forebears. It was decided that we'd leave Alpha Mensa and travel to Bridgeport.

We said goodbye to the tigers, climbed aboard the ship and left the system. Or, at least, that was the idea. However, we spotted a strange spaceship near the planet when we were moving towards the space gate. It looked familiar to Gert but he didn't remember where exactly he'd seen the shape before. While discussing this, the ship (which didn't look like it was made by humans to my, admittedly non-expert, eyes) accelerated and *plop* disappeared.
Before we dove into the space gate we sent a report of our recent adventures and discoveries (first contact!) to Mr. Cheng.

Near Luyten's Star

We just received a reply from Mr. Cheng. It was very understated and didn't exactly tell us anything. I wonder what's happening back on Gnapho II?

Wednesday 24 October 2379

We finally reached Bridgeport, landing in the city Freescape. It's a heavily industrialised city, and rather a shock after the wide skies of Alpha Mensa and it's primitive environments. On the other hand, there's something to be said for soaking in a jacuzzi, as well. While soaking I research the two open infraspheres (#public and #trade), the two closed infraspheres and the various marketplaces.
