Session 10 (Magnus)

Jungle Trippin

Played on June 6th, 2010

Tuesday, March 21th, 1933 - Mexican Jungle

We blow up a bunch of trees to create a bridge across the river as Roger recalls to have seen the temple on the other side. Across the river Roger takes the lead and hacks us a way through the dense undergrowth of the jungle.
Then all of a sudden a very small head is facing us. Roger approaches is and all of sudden a swoosh and he grabs his neck. A small dart with green gooey stuff is dangling from his skin and he becomes rather weird. Suspecting this is a poisonous dart we remove it and I try suck out the last remains of the poison.
As I suspect such a trap would only be located close to a path I start looking for one and eventually we actually find something which at some point in history might have been a path through the jungle. Following it we end up in a clearing with a large stone statue standing in the middle, again with a little head. Roger is a lot more careful this time around and investigates the surroundings of the statue for traps.
In the meanwhile I keep an eye on the perimeter of the clearing, but still three jaguars are able to surprise us with their attack. A fierce battle ensues and with some nasty cuts a bruises we manage to defeat all three of them in the end. As dusk is setting in we quickly continue in search of a suitable place to spend the night, but then all of a sudden we're in front of a large stone structure. This might even be the temple we'd been looking for since we crashed our plane.

Mike improvises a torch and we go inside where we find an octagonal room with three blocked of passages. There's a round knob beside every passage. Thomas, very curious what this is all about, quickly presses the first knob to our left. Apparently another trap as he gets spiked by a large spear which again, just like the dart, is covered in green goo. The spear impales his shoulder and Just like Roger, Thomas feels all crap now. To avoid the poison spreading too much we remove the spear and I use some of the alcohol from my hip flask to disinfect the wound. Now I use the spear to prod the second knob, next to the passage straight ahead. This opens up without a hitch and we progress deeper into the temple.

We investigate the tunnels and luckily avoid most traps. Then we stumble upon a tunnel which sounds hollow as we walk through it. Mike quickly grabs his explosives and manages to create a perfect hole leading to a tunnel beneath our current one. We all clamber down and continue again. But then all of a sudden we manage to miss a trap and a statue at the end of our current tunnel starts spewing out huge quantities of water, quickly filling up the area. Lucky for us around the corner we see stairs leading up, so we head there to avoid drowning....
