Day 10
We were summoned into Thurl's room for rather vague reasons. The discussion quickly derailed and we seized upon the opportunity to suggest that he had not been entirely forthcoming about Deseyna. He gulped and explained that the Black Earth had raided a caravan coming from the north. They subsequently raided the Black Earth raiding party and "liberated" Deseyna. I don't know in what kind of weird barbaric place we've ended up in.
We had some information that Deseyna might not have been too pleased by being captured by some fancy-pants feathery dudes but he suggested he hadn't noticed. After a short time he had let Deseyna go. His story sounded unlikely to me but there was no easy way to get more information out of him. He even pretended not to know anything about Grimjaw.
He seemed to be totally obsessed by everything Black Earth but didn't care at all about all the rest.
Thurl mentioned that the others needed to sleep in the tower but that there was
luckily still a room for me. We convened on the top of the tower to discuss but Savra was there. Savra mentioned the Gnolls nearby were getting restless and needed some attention. When we spoke about the prisoner, she seemed disappointed he wasn't from Black Earth and from some other faction. A truly singular focus they have here.
When Savra finally left, we could start our actual discussion. Arisys thought
that Thurl looked shiftily at a leather container on his desk during our
conversation and that it must contain information. She decided it was a good
idea to sneak into his room in the night and find out what's in the container.
That might be entertaining and we were stuck for ideas anyhow. After some hours Arisys sneaked off to Thurl's room.
Arisys returned carrying a torch. Great, loot! Doesn't sound like the best way
to sneak around though. Apparently, Arisys had been snuck around and managed to
extract half a scroll from the container but Thurl had found her. She
managed to convince Thurl that she was on her way to the restroom. Cool stuff! Problem is.. with half the scroll, it is just a matter of time before Thurl will find out it's missing. So, how do we get out of this tower?
Turns out there is no good way out of the tower. The drawbridge has been raised
and it is a huge drop, unless you can float across the moat. We analysed half
the scroll and it reads:
ear about the outcome of
the black earth cult, and
pture of one of their
ewoman from Waterdeep
e to tell and we shall enjoy
ther. Keep a close watch on
stery. I want to know what
xt.
Your beloved queen,
Aerisy Kalinoth
That seems rather boring. Oh, well this has been at least a nice story to tell in the bars. Arisys got so excited about getting away with this that she wanted to try again. Some time later she sneaks off again. This time the joke was on us, we heard Thurl screen "Intruders!". I quickly ran off to see what I could do. It turned out Thrul hadn't found Arisys but just noticed someone was in his room again. I continued our ruse and pretended to help him out to find the culprit. Arisys managed the use the chaos of our "help" to also pretend she just ran into the room. I'm starting to get fond of that little girl! I hinted our prisoner migt have broken out and started snooping around. They interrogated him and apparently they were quite sure in the end that he wasn't it. He was unavailable for further questioning though.
Meanwhile, Thurl finally found out half the scroll was missing. They questioned and searched us all and nothing was found. No idea where Arisys had hidden it in the mean time! Intriguing..
After some time, they told they found the thief! It was a one of their knights!
Arisys could hide her sheepish grin. She probably had somethign to do with
that. Apparently, it had been in his chest with personal possessions for which
only he had the key. Thurl wanted to punish the traitor and we joined him on
the top of the tower to see what would happen. He unceremoniously told
everyone he needed to throw the traitor off the tower! Lirmyi seemed to savor the prospect and took a good place at the edge off the tower to see it well. Typical drow!
It's all fun and games until someone is thrown off the tower! We'd better keep
that innocent knight alive! I tried convincing Thurl that it would be better if
he banished the knight and that we'd follow him so we could find out who is
trying to spy on his exciting order of hobbyist bird trainers. (I might have
used different words.) Thurl was obsessed with throwing this guy off though. He
must have been waiting some time for this. All of sudden this traitorous elf Niamh started blabbing that Arisys did this!
Even though I reacted ever so shocked, Thurl actually believed the elf. Thurl sent out 2 knights to go and fetch Arysis. We were gobsmacked! Rodan for some reason started to tell everything to Thurl. As if the truth ever made anything better! Arysis returned and when she was asked if the stole the scroll, she said: "I didn't steal the whole scroll!" I guess that was a good joke but Thurl didn't seem to laugh. Rather, Thurl was hell-bent on throwing Arysis off the tower. We can't let that happen, even though she's really short I've started to get fond of her! Swords drawn, incantations at the ready, we charged...
