Day 21
Two hellhounds were trying to bite me, another guy was trying to hit me, 2 archers were standing on the scaffolding shooting arrows, a caster just threw a fireball on us and another caster was doing some ritual on that Wicker Giant. It didn't look good.
Most of us had ran back outside, while I was trying to distract the enemies. The damn hellhounds started to breath fire on me, which I could luckily partially absorb. But it hurt! I saw that Naeris ran towards the casters and together with Varaf they took care of one of them. But then the other one finished some kind of ritual on the Wicker Giant and a large Fire Elemental appeared, taking all fire from the Wicker Giant. It quickly moved to the entrance behind me setting all stuff on the courtyard in fire, while I still was fightng the hellhounds.
On the scaffolding some more people appeared, and with them some kind of dwarf, but instead of hair and a beard he had fire! Varaf acted on that and placed some sphere of darkness around them. Since it was closeby I heard a cacophony of soft whispers and slurping noises coming from it. A place you should not enter for sure! One hellhound ran towards the entrance, while I tried to keep the other one busy. And meanwhile the leftover caster was shooting some kind of fire bolts at me.
Then I knew I couldn't stand there for much longer. My armor and shield couldn't prevent the fire attacks to hurt me, so I decided to quickly run outside, hoping that things were better there. The hellhound tried to bite me but failed. Outside I saw 2 wolves burning alive fighting with the Fire Elemental. Not sure who they were, but they were on our side. Limryi saw I was hurt and healed me and inspired me to continue the fight! So I charged the Fire Elemental and hit it with my warhammer! Since it was pure fire I noticed my attacks weren't that effective, and my hand started to catch fire from the extreme heat it radiated.
Varaf had placed another sphere of darkness (called Hunger of Hadar) at the gate now so all inside could not get out easily. The ones that tried were quickly taken care of by Arisys and Naeris. Meanwhile Niamh was continuously shooting arrows on the Fire Elemental. The Druids we talked to earlier also joined the fight and casted some kind of rain on top the Fire Elemental, and healing some of us. Then Limryi casted something that made the Fire Elemental ran away, first towards the darkness sphere, and when he found out it wasn't nice to enter he ran to the side. It was after it came back Varaf reminded that he had a scroll of Wall of Water! He casted it in a circle over the Fire Elemental. To our suprise he instantly changed into a cloud of vapor and was gone! The druids that had catched fire and myself quickly doused the flames in the wall of water and soon the last enemy that appeared from the sphere of darkness was taken care of.
I checked on the courtyard where the others were, but they were gone.
Limryi healed one of the wolves, the other already died. It turned out to
be the 2 humans that smelled Limryi as one of them. There also was some
discussion with the Druids that helped us about what had happened here.
We decided to go inside the tower to find the leader Elisar and find out.
The main door was blocked by rubble, so we had to get up the
scaffolding and enter by a door on the side of the tower. Inside the tower
the floor was collapsed amd we could look down 2 stories. There we saw a
lot of rubble on the ground, and some dark hole leading deaper. Also some
small fire-imp-like creatures were wandering around. They seemed harmless
for now and we took the stairs up.
After a floor with sleeping bags we came on a floor with the Druid
Elisar sitting at a table. The others that escaped the fight were also there.
They said we disturbed the ritual, and that they had to start over again
now. We told the Elisar that the woman summoned a Fire Elemental, and
attacked us. But he wouldn't believe us. He had an excuse that the Fire
Elemental appeared because the ritual was disturbed. Elisar wanted us to leave
the tower while he would find out what happened. It was not clear on which
side he was, and if his followers were lying to him, or he was lying to us.
Also the 4 druids that joined the fight didn't saw how it started, so they
were also not sure what and who to believe.
It almost escalated when Varaf started to intimidate him. And when I tried
to join the discussion he called me a stupid dwarf, so I gave him a slap
in the face with my Spectral Hand. In the end Niamh saved the
conversation by asking Elisar if he could talk to animals, which he could.
And she proposed to ask some animal that saw the fight, to explain what
really happened... "Because there are always animals around", she said.
Are there?
