18/19. Red Larch Exploded! (Rodan)

Played on February 5th / 12th, 2017

Day 22

We all felt very tired and needed to get some sleep. Because it wasn't safe to sleep here, we decided to go to the exit leading to the mines. And spend the night there.

Day 23

When we went back the next morning, we noticed there were 2 ogres arguing. We sneaked upon them and killed them quickly. Still that made a lot of noise. And while we were scouting around a group of hobgoblins arrived. Also those were taken care of pretty quick with a Fireball and some hits. But one of them escaped getting more help.

It was a lady called $name together with 2 of the sword guys, 2 of the spearguys and 2 of the casters. When the fight started Lirmye separated them into 2 groups with a Stinking Cloud. It wasn't easy, but we managed to take care of the 4 of them we could see. When the cloud was gone, the others were also gone.

We took a short rest in the secret sarcophagus room, and after that continued our investigation of the area. The forge area was empty, and when we checked the side entrance, we found in was a short hallway leading to a big circular pit. At the bottom a faint light could be seen. There also was a short wooden bridge which stopped over the pit. My only guess was that it was some kind of elevator system. Maybe they could fill the pit with lava, and a rock floating in the lava would go up and down. We continued another way.

The stairs up we came into a hallway. Behind a fence a couple of hellhounds where barking. We decided to kill them, so they couldn't be released later on top of us. We also found a room where the lava sluice could be opened or closed further. Niamh found a pool of water in a circular room. But she didn't investigated it further. We followed the dried blood trail further. We found some kind of chapel, and an open secret door. Behind it we came into a room where we found Elisar. He was dead, chained to the wall. There was a blue glowing ball. It was a magical message from $name. She told us not to follow them. And that Elisar was killed because he led us here. Elisar still had a dagger that looked magical, which we took with us.

When we were going to check out another side of the area we heared people calling our names. We met them in the forge. It were the druids we left behind. Apparently they came to tell us that Red Larch was no more. It exploded or something. And they heared that it was done by someone we messed with. They were afraid more villages would follow. Not all in the group were impressed, but I would say we should take a look! We told them we would finish scouting the area here, and the would leave for Red Larch.

We found a weird room filled with decayed plantlike material, which were in parallel 'walls' in the room. I poked it some with my handaxe, but it just smelled more. There were some thoughts about throwing a fireball on it, but we decided not to. We also found some stairs going down with a fence behind it. There was a large Chimera begind it. He didn't attack us direcly, but looked angry. We decided that maybe we could kill it. Leaving such an evil creature here behind didn't seem like a good plan. So Arisys sneaked upon him. Shoot here deadly bolt and missed! The Chimera responded by a big Fire breath, almost killing Arisys. That was enough reason to just leave it there. We also closed the sluice to see what would happen then. As expected the lava rise very slowly. But Varaf was against leaving it behind like that, and opened it again. Then we left for Red Larch!
